Standards Based Grading:
It doesn't matter when you learn it or how you learn it, just as long as you learn it.
Learning a concept means to describe it, know when to apply it, and being able to solve complex problems with it.
GRADES:
Your grade should reflect your current understanding of a topic. This means your grade should increase as you learn more about a topic.
Your grade is something you earn by demonstrating that you have mastered the content of this course.
Your grade should help you decide what the next steps are in case you need some tutoring or additional help.
GRADEBOOK:
HAC:
I will be updating HAC on a weekly basis.
Codes are as follows:
GRADING POLICY
90% Demonstrates Knowledge of Concepts- (Standard Based Assessments)
· These will be your assessments that cover the concepts we are learning in class.
10% Applies Problem Solving Strategies
· This is where students will earn a grade for homework, classwork, warm-ups, assessment corrections, etc. Assessment corrections are corrections to the Standards Based Assessments. Once a student has completed the corrections and additional makeup work if necessary, s/he will be able to retest.
ABSENT WORK/MAKE-UP POLICY
If a student is absent, s/he should make up their work as soon as possible. Students have 2 days for every day absent to make up their work.

GRADEBOOK:
- A 100 represents: you have demonstrated advanced mastery. You are able to apply your understanding of the concept to higher level questions. (You not only know what to do, and how to do it, but you are able to apply the concept at an advanced level--something you've never seen before.)
- A 92 represents: you have demonstrated mastery. You made one minor calculation or a prior knowledge error that does not relate to the standard being assessed.
- An 82 represents: you have demonstrated proficient understanding of the concept. The student’s process is correct, however there are minor conceptual error(s) related to the standard.
- A 72 represents: you have a basic understanding but I’m not fully convinced that you've mastered this concept. You have some misconceptions and/or has not shown the necessary work or process to show understanding. Maybe you left out some steps in the process, didn’t address all aspects of the problem, or your reasoning for the answer is unclear. You may have made several slight calculation mistakes which caused you to get the wrong answer at the end of the problem. (You know what to do, and how to do it, but you are making mistakes along the way, or you are not quite finishing the problem all of the way.)
- A 62 represents: you have a limited understanding, but you’re not quite there yet. You have some significant misconceptions about the concept or your work is too limited to show your level of understanding. (You know what to do, but you are struggling with how to do it.)
- A 52 represents: you demonstrated weak or no conceptual understanding of the concept. You may not know how to start the problems, or your idea of how to start shows major misconceptions. The problem could also be blank or a problem with only the answer given and no work or explanation. (You don't really know what to do, or how to do it.)
- A 50 represents no attempt to demonstrate mastery. You may have been absent or you have not put your name on your paper. Also you may have NO WORK SHOWN for any problem.
- These grades are revisable! Our goal is to have YOU fully understand and be able to apply each of the concepts!
HAC:
I will be updating HAC on a weekly basis.
Codes are as follows:
- 50= missing assignment—never saw/received the assignment
- Blank grade box- means the assignment is not yet graded and currently has no effect on your child’s grade
